People will explode in the vacuum of space

People will explode in the vacuum of space.....

This can be made a very good question too.

How long can a human live unprotected in space?

There is not a very good history behind this myth. It has not been tested so, there hasn't been an accurate answer to this myth. In NASA; there was a incident about a human or test subject accidentally exposed to a vacuum. This is a very interesting myth for me and others. If they were to test it then, it would be the first test conducted in the history of US about a human in a vacuum.

There is really no any other specfic topic about this myth. If it is so hard to test or even impossible then, how could it be related to other sciene topic or myth. It doesn't have any proof behind it either. What I mean is that; nobody has ever lived or will to talk about being exposed to a vacuum.

At Nasa's Manned Spacecraft center, there was an incident about a test subject accidentally explosed to a vacuum because, of his leaking space suit back in '65. He remained conscious for about 14 seconds which is about the time the blood takes to reach the brain from the heart. When, he was consious again, he said that before he passed out he remembered that the water on his tongue began to boil. You can learn more about this at http://imagine.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/ask_astro/answers/970603.html

This website will talk more about what happens to you when you are exposed to space. I am not telling you just to read it as by being lazy but, to know more because, What i have is just a brief expanation in my own words.

In this one they have another example of what happens to somebody in space. They tell about a guy who was exposed to space WITHOUT a helmet.

http://www.geoffreylandis.com/vacuum.html

This is the basic question you guys should be asking.

Will you stay conscious?

The "Bioastronautics Data Book answers this question: "Some degree of consciousness will probably be retained for 9 to 11 seconds.... It is very unlikely that a human suddenly exposed to a vacuum would have more than 5 to 10 seconds to help himself."

Astronaut Bowman ejected into space without a helmet

So, Take a look at the website I gave you. Read the info and if you have any question you would like to ask me then, comment with a question.

I agree that it is hard to test but i think that you need a more definative answer about what happens. However i do believe that you did accomplish this answer. Personally I do like this topic so it was very interesting. Very good job though

A boiling tongue? That would not be fun! This topic would be hard to research because no one really can explain how they felt if they passed out in space. This blog was very interesting!

I agree with you abe; i do not have an exact answer but, i did my best to explain all about that myth.

It's true Holly; you tongue does get boiled because, of the differences between a vacuum and earth. IT'S VERY DANGEROUS IN A VACUUM

wow, a boiling tongue? I still thought this blog was interesting. I do agree that this is a hard topic to look into and that people should work on finding an answer to it.

Man I know I would hate to be in space without a helmet. This myth is one of the ones I had always thought about. I mean what would happen to you if you were in space without the proper gear?? I know to NASA the idea of accidentally being unprepared for space is a very real and frightening thing. Especially when it coincides with peoples lives. I think you really have to be lucky to be safe out in space and to have a safe flight.
